Chicken Philly Cheesesteak
This is not your traditional Philly Cheesesteak. If you’re like me and you love a good Philly but you’re trying to shy away from red meat this Sandwich is the one for you! With thinly sliced juicy marinated chicken with sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms this recipe is sure to blow you away! Back to the kitchen that is to grab some more 😋.
I still remember the first time I bit into my first cheesesteak; I was a child at the Perry State Fair and lord knows it was so juicy and delicious. The cheese, the bun, the flavors were absolutely amazing so I’ve spent my time over the years perfecting my chicken marinade to taste as close to steak as I could. Y’all I think I’ve done it.
With a few simple ingredients I was able to bring myself back to that day at the fair biting into a delicious Philly. I used chicken thighs because they’re so juicy and delicious but you can use breast if you’d prefer I marinated them the night before to insure the perfect amount of flavor. I also used garlic butter for my hoagie rolls which molded all that flavor right together from start to finish! Now ladies and gents what you’ve all be waiting forrr THE RECIPE! 🤣

Cooking Directions
0. Take chicken out 10-15 minutes prior to cooking so the temperature can adjust. I found that with it ice cold it dries out during cooking process.
1. Cut onion and bell pepper in thin slices and set aside in a bowl. Slice mushrooms and add to mixture. Lightly season with salt and pepper. Sat aside.
2. Turn pan on medium-high heat then add 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil to pan. When oil has heated to proper temperature add chicken to pan and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side. Remove chicken from pan and sat aside to keep warm.
3. Add 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil or butter to pan and wait for it to heat. Add onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté for about 4 minutes when onions are clear add a 1/4 cup of water to insure vegetables caramelize. Stir occasionally and cook until onions are dark brown and peppers are dark green.
4. Place chicken on cutting board and slice into thin pieces of your choosing. (I’ve found that cutting cooking chicken is easier than raw but be sure to retain juices).
5. Add chicken back to pan with sautéed veggies and mix well. ( I like to add a little water to insure it cooks to juicy perfection)
6. Preheat oven to 350 and grab remaining minced garlic to make garlic butter. Place softened butter in a bowl or microwave until almost melted. Add garlic to butter and mix well. Cut hoagie rolls to your liking and spread with garlic butter. Place in oven and cook for 2-5 minutes depending on desired color. Remove from oven but leave oven on.
7. I like to section my chicken for my hoagies and place cheese slices on top and place in oven. While cheese is melting add desired condiments to hoagie rolls (I added mayo and mustard). Grab meat from oven and place onto bread. You could be done here but I decided to add Spinach, Jalapeños, and banana peppers to mine.
8. Last but not least enjoy with your favorite side I whipped up some baked potato wedges.
Thank you for stopping by I hope you ENJOY!
